Who is Jason Lanier?

Jason Lanier is known the world over as one of the pre-eminent photographers when it comes to mastering and using light in his work and for the diverse types of work that he undertakes. He is the original Master of Light for Rotolight and his work has been featured in magazines and publications around the world.

Jason was chosen as the Archival Photographer for the iconic documentary for Six Flags New Orleans, Jazzland, one of the most famous abandoned locations in the world. In this role he documented the park in it’s state after 20 years of abandonment. He archived and preserved the historical remnants and painstakingly watched over the park in it’s last days as the demolition team wiped away 25 years of history.

The Six Flags New Orleans Jazzland Project

Jason’s most in depth documentary saw him cover the subject of immigration, both legal and illegal surrounding the chaotic border between the U.S. and Mexico. Lasting over 4 years this project included him being trafficked through 9 different countries as he took the migrant trek with immigrants seeking their pathway to the United States.

How imagery is Changing Our World- Ted Talk by Jason Lanier

We live in a time where the majority of people have access to drones, smart phones, action cameras and more to capture content. And with Youtube, Tiktok, instagram and Facebook, everytone on the planet has the power to publish and distribute their version of events through pictures, videos and written words. So how do we discern the truth from lies? Will we harness this incredible power to be able to shape the world to be a better more unified place? Or will we use this power to sow divide, fabricate the truth and create even more chaos? Jason discusses his pursuit of using his position as a photographer and film maker to try and show people what's taking place on this planet. He challenges you to look at what's really happening vs. the set of beliefs that you want to be true, even if they aren't.
